Let’s start with the basics, the types of investment accounts:

  1. Your checking and savings account ( although not investment account, these accounts provide conduit)

  2. High Yield Saving (HYS) account, part of your income generating portfolio

  3. Taxable Brokerage account, this is one of the core account you will construct over a lifetime of investment

  4. Pretax Retirement account (Traditional IRA, 401K), similar to taxable brokerage account but with pretax money, withdraw is restrict by age and it taxed at withdraw as ordinary income

  5. Aftertax Retirement account (Roth IRA, Roth 401K), invest with after tax money and grow tax free, withdraw is restrict by age and it is not taxed at withdraw
